The Process

We were approached by Hootenanny Games to create a :30 promo and a 2:00 how to play video with actors. Sixem is an original game from Hootenanny licensed to Mondelez International to create a Sour Patch Kids branded edition.

We got to work creating a script and storyboard to help illustrate the fury and silliness of this fast-paced dice game.

This process usually starts with our team playing the game a few times to get a feel for the tone and what it’s like to actually play yourself. This helps find any trouble spots or areas that might need extra attention in the how to play.

Even the best storyboard and script are in flux and tend to not completely describe the creative vision. The brain can only do so much.

Though, we are world-renowned for our photo-realistic storyboards.

Often, we create video walkthroughs of the storyboard to help walk a client through our vision.

Finally, we got to the day of the shoot. Our actors were gracious and available midday. We were working with minimal lighting and time to film, so it was run and gun.

Ultimately, the shoot was a success despite barriers.

When in doubt, just ask your actors to be 100% more excited. And then 25% more excited. And then to start screaming as they roll their dice.

These people are great I tell ya.

While editing, you can hope and pray viewers will understand the back and forth of being sour or sweet. It happens a lot while you play.

But we really wanted to sell it in the video.

We shot footage of each player being sour and sweet to each other to have options to choose from.

Then while editing, took liberties with a bit of compositing to give the Sour player some absurd super saiyan energy while erasing an x.

Then we really puckered ourselves up to build a cutesy, romantic scene for being sweet to another player. The game is a constant ebb and flow of being over-the-top kind to friends and relentlessly belligerent to your enemies.

Lifestyle Stills

Video tells one story, but action photos tell another.

These stills take the heat of the moment and leave a potential customer imagining what it might be like to see their own friends and family playing this game.
